Why Would the Paper Feed Into a Hp Designjet 130nr
Designjet 130 printer - paper feed calibration
Designjet 130 printer - paper feed calibration
Nov 30, 2005
I have one major problem with my new Designjet 130 printer. It always accept the paper, but it frequently ejects it without starting the printing process. I only use the tray for 8.5x11" sized prints and only the front feed for larger prints. I have never tried the rear path feed. I use a 24" rotatrim to carefully trim paper of a 24" roll and I am fastidious about smooth square cuts. I also flatten the paper using a rolled cork roll. I also carefully place the paper into the front feed square with its right edge perfectly abutting the right edge of the front feed tray. My paper rejection rate is 5-10%.
I contacted HP and they have no answers/suggestions. I asked HP what happens to the printer when one performs the paper feed calibration test process, and how the printer alters its behaviour based on the paper feed test plot. They didn't know the answer. Does anybody know the answer?
Does anybody know how to eliminate this frustrating probelm?

Re: Designjet 130 printer - paper feed calibration
I occasionally try to feed scraps cut off the roll and find an even higher rejection rate but I use these only occasionally for ad hoc tests so I don't take the time to flatten them. On the other hand, if I play with the vertical angle of feed at the slot, it will usually be accepted eventually. On the third hand (Designjet owners need at least three to deal with this problem: the printer really ought to offer a manual feed), I have never had a piece of cut-sheet paper rejected. If the position of the paper is measured from above by a sensor, then the the paper might not need to be curled very high for the edge to appear int he wrong place. Perhaps what looks flat to your eye is not quite flat enough for the printer's electronic eye, especially near the edge.
That said, I have had significant problems with paper rejection when using the roll feeder. HP first replaced the roll-paper feeder but that didn't help, then they replaced the entire printer. Now it seems to be working normally but I am keeping my fingers crossed.
